when creating an ubuntu oneiric lxc container with default settings using
lxc-create -n ubuntubuilder -t ubuntu -- --release oneiric
and shutting down the container, it takes the host's network interfaces
with it.
this behavior seems to be due to the default setting of not virtualizing
network (which i appreciate as it just does the right thing for me), and
the ubuntu template not deactivating the interface entries in
/etc/network/interfaces. thus, when the container shuts down, it
deconfigures its network interfaces, making the server unreachable from
outside. (i was lucky to have a way to remote ctrl-alt-delete the server
to spare me a trip of several hundret km.)
i suggest the /etc/network/interfaces be overwritten with an appropriate
message by the generating script by default unless networking is
virtualized.
