Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.1.19
Severity: wishlist

It would be nice if dpkg alerted the user to the existence of "suggested"
packages. Since not everyone takes advantage of this feature in dselect,
particularly now that apt-get makes it easy to grab a single package from
the command line, it would be nice to see a message like :

Package 'gimp' suggests (but does not require) the following packages:
        freefont, sharefont, gimp-nonfree, gimp-data-extras (>= 1:1.0.0)
These packages are not marked for installation.

I am asking this feature to be added to dpkg instead of apt so that it will
be present no matter which installation method is used.

Thanks.

Rob

I don't belive this kind of verbosity belongs in the dpkg backend.
Instead I think this makes more sense in whatever frontend interface
one might be using.

As such, I'm closing this bug report.
