Package: ekiga
Version: 3.2.7-2
Severity: important
Hi,
I have spent about 1-2 months studying all the possibilities about SIP and
LINUX.
The best opensource SIP is EKIGA, but however it does not allow to make SIP
voip phone calls or receive them with anything else than EKIGA. Ekiga wants to
get the monopole, and on the other side, the other VOIP kinda sucks (compared
to ekiga) and there is almost no support and no further development.
Ekiga remains the best, get lot of users, and really must be the SIP one
protocoll for Linux. For server, you can die, since there is nothing for LINUX
headless machines.
An example, you cannot have a sound working with linphone-nox. EKIGA x11 works
well with ekiga x11, but it is not compatible with anything else. SIP is thus
bound to make users desesperated and turn back to SKYPE. Skype (MS now) really
works, and it has certainly more to offer than SIP for LINUX.
OK, here is the linphonerc that is very well configured. Firewall has been make
also pretty working. If you use linphonerc with stun on a openports firewall,
or other configurations, you can mess up completely the networking (stun / ip
use / forward). Ok... I can explain, but ok.
The problem is that EKIGA SIP:[email protected] must be working with this
configuration. Please work on this : install linphone-nox and try this:
Enjoy. I really need help on this field, because I cannot be the only one that
really works in this planet with Linux, code, and propose path. I am kinda feed
up that I must propose paths everywhere.
Please make or do sthg to help if possible. Ekiga is soooo cool, and deserves
really all our care and attention.
