Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: important

The primary purpose of libmusicbrainz is to communicate with the
musicbrainz.org web API using XML.

The XML web API has changed and the library will not work at all. No
bug fix release will come along - upstream has completely rewritten the
library, with a distinct SONAME and different C/C++ API. More than 10
other packages need to be prompted to make code changes or remove their
dependency on this library. Consequently, the bug is marked important.

Binary packages to remove:

  http://packages.debian.org/sid/libmusicbrainz4c2a
  http://packages.debian.org/sid/libmusicbrainz4-dev
  http://packages.debian.org/sid/python-musicbrainz

Source package to remove:

  http://packages.debian.org/source/sid/libmusicbrainz-2.1

Replacement package coming to Debian in the near future:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/libmusicbrainz
  http://musicbrainz.org/doc/libmusicbrainz

Other packages impacted (we are giving them bug reports too):

~$ apt-cache rdepends libmusicbrainz4c2a
libmusicbrainz4c2a
Reverse Depends:
  rhythmbox-plugins
  muine
  libtunepimp5
  libmusicbrainz-ruby1.8
  python-musicbrainz
  libmusicbrainz4-dev
  libkcddb4
  kscd
  k3b
  gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
  goobox
  gmerlin
  cynthiune.app

------------------- Reason -------------------
RoQA; obsolete, does not work with recent XML API
----------------------------------------------

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

We try to close Bugs which have been reported against this package
automatically. But please check all old bugs, if they where closed
correctly or should have been re-assign to another package.

Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to [email protected].
