Adding such significant behaviour change of pulling in
daemons significantly changing system behaviour is no nice
move, espacially so shortly before a release...

No, there is a reason why this was added. Upstream changed to ck-list-sessions
because it seems to be the only tool working with lightdm:

We may have a different understanding of "so shortly before a release". The
change was done on March 6th in version 0.140-1. Now you may have missed it
because of the incorrect dependency that was fixed in 0.140-4, sorry about
that.
