I have added some series to favourites, turned on reminders in the
advanced options, with time vaules left at their default values
(300s and 600s respectively)). Now the correct reminders are popping up,

The freeguide package was removed from Debian[1] in May, so there's
nothing we can do to fix bugs in it, as it is not part of the
distribution anymore.
I would advise you to file the bug upstream.
