Please check if
$ LANG=C LC_ALL=C man ISO_8859-1 > /dev/null
doesn't produce tons of
/tmp/zmanIKrhYl:155: warning: can't find numbered character 238
and also see if in emacs (man "iso-8859-1") doesn't make a buffer with
a 3000 character long line in it. Also in xman do most of the symbols
show up as "?".
Doing LANG=C LC_ALL=C man ISO_8859-1 > file; less file
at least allows one to see the descriptions without character glitches.
