Remote box is running libvirt 0.9.1 and kvm. Create a new virtual machine, choose local instal media, select arbitrary .iso file. In Step 4 of "Create a new virtual machine", Select managed or other existing storage, click Browse. Server configuration makes LVM visible here and shows the volume group as a Storage Pool ("LVM Volume Group"). Select this storage pool, click on "New Volume", and that's the last thing you'll hear from your local virt manager.
