Package: cups
Version: 1.3.8-1lenny4
Severity: important

browsing to "http://`hostname`:631/"; fails - by default Debian maps the
machine's hostname to 127.0.1.1, and this erroneously does not seem to
be covered by cups' (poorly documented) @LOCAL network ACL, despite
127.0.1.1 being a local address.

This is particularly baffling if you (for instance):

Allow @LOCAL
Allow 192.168.0.1/24 (i.e. your local subnet).

Browsing to http://yourhostname:631/ then gets a '403 Forbidden' whereas
http://127.0.0.1:631/ or http://your.ip.address.in.the.local.subnet:631/
succeeds.

Dear Debian User,

This bug report was submitted against a version of CUPS that is no
longer supported in Debian. Use of our limited, volunteer supported
resources is best served by not keeping around old, hardware-specific
and inactive bugs for longer than desirable. Also, further information
on your issue was requested some time ago but there has been no response
from you. Consequently, the report is now being closed.

You may, of course, wish to review the reported problem. It would be
appreciated if any future investigation could be conducted using the
testing or unstable distributions. If considered necessary, this report
could be re-opened or a new bug report, possibly referencing this one,
submitted. Please note there are now separate cups and cups-filters
packages.

Thank you for your report.

Regards,

Brian.
