Package: fluxbox
Version: 1.1.1-2
Severity: important

Hi!
Thanks for maintaining fluxbox in Debian!

I've just found out a bug which was not present in older versions of
fluxbox: this is a regression, although I cannot remember which version
did not suffer from this issue.

Anyway the bug is present now, in version 1.1.1-2, and is really
annoying.
Put simply: if I start a full-screen game from fluxbox, and this game
runs at a resolution which differs from the desktop one, then I
find all windows moved up and left on all workspaces, as soon as I
quit the game and go back to my fluxbox session!

Steps to reproduce:

  # aptitude install freedoom

Then start the game from a fluxbox session, with some open windows
(anything is affected: terminal emulators, panels such as fbpanel,
audio players, graphical web browsers, graphical MUAs, ...):

  $ doom

Inside the game, select "Options", then "General", and set
  "Fullscreen video mode" to Yes.

  Quit and restart the game.

  $ doom

Play for a while and then quit.
In the terminal where you started the game, you should find
  several stdout messages, among which:

  I_InitGraphics: 640x480
  I_UpdateVideoMode: 640x480 (fullscreen)
V_InitMode: using 8 bit video mode
  I_SetRes: Using resolution 640x480
I_UpdateVideoMode: 0xe0000000, SDL buffer, direct access

confirming that the game ran full-screen at a different resolution
(unless your desktop runs at 640x480...).

  Look at all the windows.
Their positions is wrong: moved up and left.
At least, this is what happened to me: I had to reposition
each and every window back to its right place! By hand!

I hope this bug may be fixed soon.
Please forward to upstream, if appropriate.

Thanks for your time.

I retried today and it seems that the bug is no longer reproducible.
I am currently using fluxbox/1.3.2-4 and
xserver-xorg-video-intel/2:2.19.0-5

I tested with freedoom, which says:

[...]
I_InitGraphics: 640x480
I_UpdateVideoMode: 640x480 (fullscreen)
V_InitMode: using OpenGL video mode
I_SetRes: Using resolution 640x480
I_UpdateVideoMode: 0x80000002, own buffer, direct access
[...]

and also with gnujump.
Both are able to switch to full-screen at different resolution, without
messing up with my fluxbox-managed windows!

I'm happy that the bug seems to have vanished.
I am therefore closing the bug report.

Bye.
