Package: resolvconf
Version: 1.12
Just did an almost entirely default "testing" install using the beta4
debian-installer. Network setup works out ok, except the dns servers
specified by DHCP don't make it into resolv.conf. (used the
businesscard cd image, so all the packages were downloaded off the net
fine, so either dns was working at some point or IPs were specified
for the mirrors?)
The dns servers do get detected properly, and are placed into
/var/run/dhclient.eth0.leases by the command:
dhclient -e -pf /var/run/dhclient.eth0.pid -lf
/var/run/dhclient.eth0.leases eth0
which presumably gets run by ifup when called from
/etc/init.d/networking.
The script /etc/network/if-up.d/000resolvconf should set this up, but
the $R variable is remaining unset, which would mean that the various
DNS env variables are not set when entering the script...
I do not have dhcp3-client installed, only dhcp-client. Perhaps this
is incompatible, however this is the default install... I read the
README file, and, other than not using dhcp3-client, think everything
is sorted out (by default, on the install).
This bug may be misplaced on this package, however it seems unlikely
that this is really just a default installer problem, given that it
would presumably impact so many people and does appear to have been
reported before. I report this bug here to try to get to the bottom
of it on my system, which I believe to be "normal."
Restarting the network doesn't help, however just running "dhclient"
(no arguments) solves the problem.
