Today I've tried to install the guest addition on a CentOS machine using the
installer from the .iso.

I then tried with the iso shipped with the version 4.1.24 of virtualbox and
it was working as expected.
As documented on the upstream bug report[0], the patch is available in
the SVN (revision 42164[1]).
