Take a .deb and truncate it, oh 2/3 of the way thru, as I did with
htdig's .deb
with dpkg -X, one would see

dpkg-deb: subprocess tar returned error exit status 2
however, hitting RET in dired just views the deb as if all was
hunky-dory. The user thinks all is OK.
Make sure plenty of Messages are sent, and even stick a [TRUNCATE]
into the INFO or DATA buffer where the break occurs.
