Package: sysklogd
Version: 1.4.1-2
Severity: normal
Syslogd screws up when it tries to open a named pipe (e.g. /dev/xconsole, a
FIFO) if said pipe is not empty. It diverts all log messagess to the active
console (/dev/tty0) in that case, which is seriously annoying.
The bug will show up every time syslogd is restarted (as in stop, start),
during upgrades usually (I didn't have anything reading from the named fifo,
so it was quite full). If the fifo is empty, the problem does not show up.
The workaround is to not have any fifos in /etc/syslogd.conf, which is not
much of a workaround at all; or to forcibly flush all pipes before starting
syslogd.
