Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.10.8-1squeeze5
Severity: normal
Hello,
could you please add a priority= field to the entries in
/usr/lib/mime/packages/gnumeric?
In particular, the msexcel entries should have a priority lower than
libreoffice, say for instance 2 (that's what abiword uses for msword).
Gnumeric is a very nice software, but it just doesn't work as well as
libreoffice at showing random MSexcel files.
Feel free to reassign to libreoffice-calc if you believe they are the
ones who should increase their priority value.
Thank you,

After careful consideration I've decided to keep default MIME
priority without change.
It is difficult to decide on priorities because application preference
is a highly subjective matter therefore any change may negatively
affect users' preferences and expectations.
Besides such change would require coordination that is hard to do
without formal process.
Also FreeDesktop.org shared MIME do not use any priorities and IMHO it
would be best to avoid any difference from that behaviour.
Fortunately one can set preferable application in $HOME/.mailcap -- to
do that it is enough to copy corresponding line from "/etc/mailcap",
see mailcap(5) for more details.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to [email protected],
and the maintainer will reopen the bug report if appropriate.
Best wishes,
Dmitry Smirnov
