This also allows the user to filter apps from the frequent view using alacarte. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696949 A backport to 3.8 was considered in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=705544 but never happened. 3.10 is now in experimental with a fix for this though.
