Debian won 2 Linux New Media Awards in 2011, as explained in our press release at http://www.debian.org/News/2011/20110304.en.html This is confirmed by http://www.linux-magazine.com/Online/News/CeBIT-2011-Linux-New-Media-Award-Winners-Announced
I am not sure of the exact date this happened, it may be 2011-03-03.

Unfortunately, our site currently doesn't link to any Linux New Media page that confirms the awards were given to Debian (see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=655639 ). I am joining a patch which adds this event using as source Linux New Media's article.
