Package: nedit
Version: 5.4-1
Kernel: 2.6.3-1-k7 (but happens on kernel 2.4.x, too)
glibc: 2.3.2.ds1-11
The dynamically linked nedit that comes with debian does disturb some
other applications. I had problems with mozilla-thunderbird on my
debian-sid-system; two colleagues of mine on other debian-systems (both
sarge), too.
When copy&pasting or only marking text in a mail-compose window, the
operation takes a timeout of about one second before it continues. After
closing nedit everything is fine again. This happens when nedit is
running for some hours (in my case started using "nedit-nc"). It seems
to happen more often after multiple nedit-windows have been opened.
With a statically linked version from www.nedit.org this problem does
not occur.
This behaviour is not new with nedit 5.4 but was found in older versions
already. Also I think one of my colleagues had the same problems with
nedit on a Suse-Linux-System before switching to debian.
The problems do not only occur with mozilla-thunderbird. One colleague
noticed them together with xclip, too. After exiting nedit everything
was fine again.
Maybe it would be better to statically link nedit? Or isn't this the
problem?
Thank you,
Gert
