Package: mount
Version: 2.10f-2

Problem:
If you try to mount a VFAT medium with filesystem type 'auto', mount will
recognize and mount it with filesystem type msdos (instead of vfat), which
is quite undesirable (e.g. long filenames are lost).

The manpage mount(8) describes a workaround:
> Note that the auto type may be useful for user-
> mounted floppies. Creating a file /etc/filesystems
> can be useful to change the probe order (e.g., to
> try vfat before msdos) or if you use a kernel mod
> ule autoloader.

This however is ugly IMHO. It would be much better for the mount
command to automatically try vfat before trying msdos.

Is there any reason mount does not try vfat before msdos?
Changing the probe order would make it much easier to use
e.g. vfat floppies without first digging around in mount (8) and
then creating /etc/filesystems.

Proposed fix:
Change the default probe order for the 'auto' filesystem type
to try vfat before msdos.

Greetings,

Sebastian Leske
