Package: iceweasel
Version: 24.5.0esr-1~deb7u1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

According to the package changelog
(http://metadata.ftp-master.debian.org/changelogs//main/i/iceweasel/iceweasel_24.5.0esr-1_changelog),
gstreamer0.10 support was disabled in iceweasel 24.5.0esr-1. The reason given
makes sense, but removing the feature without replacement is a regression, as
some people (myself included) were using it.

According to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=806917 there is a
possible fix: Build iceweasel with --enable-gstreamer=1.0 to use gstreamer1.0
instead.
If the feature is stable enough and available in Mozilla release sources,
please provide future Debian packages with gstreamer support reenabled.

Thank you.

Iceweasel 24 would need a big backport for gstreamer 1.0 support, much
bigger than the backport I did in Iceweasel 29 (which comes from
Iceweasel 30). Iceweasel 29 and 30 have gstreamer 1.0 support.

As for Iceweasel 24:
- In testing, there is no gstreamer-ffmpeg 0.10, so gstreamer 0.10
  support is useless
- In stable, Debian wheezy originally shipped with Iceweasel 10, which
didn't have any kind of gstreamer support at all, not even hidden
behind a pref like version 24. We're essentially constrained to ship
newer versions for security reasons. That they add features is
nice, but removing unsupported features is not exactly a regression
  either.

Mike
