Package: gnome-core
Version: 1:2.22.2~5
Severity: important
I freshly installed Debian Lenny x86 with net installation CD and am
experiencing problem logging out / shutting down / restarting the system from
the
"System" menu. When I click appropriate menu item to log out nothing happens
until I open some application (except nautilus). When this other
application window opens, the system logs me out successfully. Same issue is
experieneced with shutdown and restart. Root user as well as standard
user accounts have this problem.
I installed OS using net install cd and did not select "Desktop" in task
selection. Once into command line system, I installed backported kernel
2.6.30-bpo.2-bigmem, firmware-iwlwifi and wireless tools for iwlagn. Then I
installed gnome-core, gdm, gnome-backgrounds, gnome-themes,
gnome-themes-extras and iceweasel. None of these packages were installed from
lenny-backports. I also installed NVidia driver (not using debian way). There
are no other
packages installed on the system (it is absolutely a fresh install).
I had the same setup earlier on the same computer and never had this problem.
The only difference I know of is that the earlier system was installed
using Debian install CD 1. Even there, I did not select "Desktop" task,
essentially followed the same procedure outlined above.
