Hi!

Why doesn't support emacs20 latin1 languages after installation?
Please include something like that:

  (set-input-mode (car (current-input-mode))
           (nth1 1 (current-input-mode))
                               0)

   (standard-display-european t)


(see German HOWTO chapter 6.2 - emacs)

This is very important, if people in Europe should prefer
Debian instead of distributions like SuSE.

Modern Emacs has full unicode support.
If you still have issues with the latest release, 24.3,
I suggest making a report upstream.
