Due to https://github.com/joeyh/github-backup/issues/24 (which I know is
unrelated) I upgraded git-core to the latest sid, which didn't help. However
looking at the package list helpfully added by reportug below I was inspired to
also upgrade git which fixed the issue. So I think a versioned depends is
needed on a git which is new enough to support that option.
