Unable to disable tap-to-click on new netbook (build date probably
2011-01-28, MNW737 "meenee" by clausoft) with synaptics touchpad

tpconfig reports
Found Synaptics Touchpad.
Firmware: 8.96 (multiple-byte mode).

Using
tpconfig -D1 -z0 -t0
we see that the zthreshold is reported as unchanged. The tap-to-click
behaviour is also not disabled.

Found Synaptics Touchpad.
Firmware: 8.96 (multiple-byte mode).
Z threshold: 6 of 7.
Corner taps disabled; no tap gestures.

I attach a log file with debug level 2.

I ran these commands having stopped X. (I also added these commands to
/etc/rc.local)

I note that gconf-editor is also unable to disable tap-to-click
(/apps/desktop/peripherals/touchpad/tap_to_click)

The vendor supplies a Windows driver with this version and date information
DriverVer=08/27/2009, 14.0.3.0
DriverMfgr="Synaptics"

I note that X also does not detect Synaptics input device:
