Typing C-l in an emacs X11 window, while the mouse pointer is over the
window, causes all the scroll bars to vanish. Each one comes back if I
move the mouse over the area where that scroll bar should be; they all
come back if I resize the window. This only happens if the window is
at least 60 lines tall (according to the window manager).
This did not happen before emacs 23.1+1-5, IIRC. It may be relevant
that I use metacity in focus-follows-mouse mode and that I customized
the scroll bars to be on the right.
Three screenshots are attached: the first shows the normal display with
two panes, the second shows the effect of typing C-l, and the third
shows the effect of moving the mouse over one of the missing scroll bars.
