Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.14.1-2
Severity: normal
Control: affects -1 xscreensaver-data
xscreensaver-data includes a bunch of "hacks" -- things that can be
run when xscreensaver is invoked.
I understand that xscreensaver is not normally the screensaver of
choice when running GNOME, but it's certainly possible to have it
co-installed.
however, each xscreensaver "hack" is showing up as an individual icon
when i browse all applications in gnome-shell (that is: click the grid
of 9 dots with the tooltip "Show Applications", and then select "All"
from the bottom selector).
A naive user might want to see what this application "Fiberlamp" is,
or "FuzzyFlakes". But most of these programs don't do anything when
invoked via the Applications browser.
even worse, some of them may actualy take effect but they have no UI
available, so they can't be dealt with properly by the user.
At best, these icons are a distraction to the user, at worst they
cause active usability problems.
gnome-shell should filter them out of the Applications browsing.
Alternately, xscreensaver-data should ship them in such a way that
gnome-shell knows to ignore them. Maybe the package maintainers need
to coordinate?
Thanks for maintaining gnome-shell and xscreensaver in debian.
