Package: mpd
Version: 0.14~beta2-1
Severity: normal
I recently noticed hickups during playback and think they are a
regression.
Observation:
When playing there is a hardy noticeable hickup sound about twice per
second. The intervals are not exactly half seconds but vary. The hickup
sounds a bit like a very slow sawtooth function. The easiest way to
notice them is to pick a file where pauses alternate with sound.
It only happens to some files which seem have format mp3.
I tried to see whether this is a general problem by playing the same
file using mplayer, alsaplayer, sox and vlc to see that none of them has
these hickups.
I then tried to convert an example file to wav using sox and feed this
file to mpd to see that hickups are now gone.
The hickups are therefore cause by mpd interpreting certain mp3 files.
Files distributed by magnatune.com seem to be affected by this issue.
