This package's preinst script is using «dpkg --print-architecture»
incorrectly. That command outputs the native architecture according
to dpkg, but that won't necessarily match the binary package
architecture, which is what it seems the maintainer script wants to
know.
You can use the DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_ARCH environment variable, set by
dpkg itself since 1.15.4, to get the current package architecture.
