Package: emacs21
Version: 21.2-1
Severity: normal

My guess is this is an upstream bug, by the number of reports on
various systems I see using google on "emacs timed out waiting for
property-notify event". See, e.g.,
http://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gnu-emacs/2001-09/msg00203.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2001/debian-user-200108/msg02933.html
Note those are with earlier versions of emacs.

This may also really be an X bug.

I edited a 5.5Mg file, created with screen. I deleted a large region.
Emacs hung, periodically beeping and displaying the message "Timed out
waiting for property-notify event" on the display line.

It was non-responsive for a long time (5 to 10 minutes?), though it
was not using much CPU. It does seem to be back now, though some of
the other reports on the net say behavior is flakey after this
problem.

Running X 4.2.1-11 on AMD dual-processor system.

This bug has been reported against an ancient version of emacs (emacs21,
emacs22) that is no longer supported. It is assumed to be fixed (or no
longer relevant) in newer releases and therefore I'm closing this report
now. If the problem is still reproducible in the current version
(emacs24), feel free to provide more information and reopen this bug report.

Andreas
