Package: emacs21
Version: 21.4a-1
Severity: normal

I adjusted my face settings as follows:

(custom-set-faces
  ;; custom-set-faces was added by Custom -- don't edit or cut/paste it!
;; Your init file should contain only one such instance.
'(default ((t (:stipple nil :background "black" :foreground "white"
:inverse-video nil :box nil :strike-through nil :overline nil :underline nil
:slant normal :weight normal :height 140 :width normal :family
"adobe-courier"))))
'(font-lock-string-face ((((class color) (background light)) (:foreground
"Yellow" :weight bold))))
 '(font-lock-variable-name-face ((((class color) (background light))
(:foreground "DarkGoldenrod" :weight bold)))

This resulted in two things that look like bugs:

   * My window manager is ion3. When I start emacs on a paned desktop,
I momentarily see it filling its pane, but after a few seconds the font
size decreases to the size I have configured and the window shrinks
accordingly -- or tries to. emacs shrinks its client window, but since
the whole window *can't* shrink, I end up with a client window that's
smaller than the pane. If I jiggle the edge of the pane a little (i.e.,
resize it a bit), emacs immediately expands to fill the whole pane.

This is a bit annoying, since the whole point of a smaller font size is to
be able to see more text at once. What should happen is that emacs should
notice that it can't shrink its frame (if this is possible) and expand
the client window to fill the frame.

   * If I create a new pane with C-x 5 2, the font colors are preserved, but
the new pane's font size seems to be slightly larger than that of the old one.
Oddly, I don't *think* it's as large as the default font, so I'm not sure
what's going on here. I've attached two screenshots of the same file in the
same emacs session; the only difference is that the first screenshot is from the
original frame emacs opened, while the second is from a frame created via C-x 5
2.

  Daniel

This bug has been reported against an ancient version of emacs (emacs21,
emacs22) that is no longer supported. It is assumed to be fixed (or no
longer relevant) in newer releases and therefore I'm closing this report
now. If the problem is still reproducible in the current version
(emacs24), feel free to provide more information and reopen this bug report.

Andreas
