Package: icedove
Version: 31.0~b1-2
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
icedove crashes (or gracefully terminates) on startup, before showing any
graphical elements, after showing the following message:
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 689: _dl_open: Assertion
`_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)->r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!
It would be nice if I could actually use this program for email, rather than it
just being an error message generator on the console.
gdb doesn't report anything strange -- I'm not able to backtrace anything after
the program terminates:

Downgrading to icedove version 24.5.0-2 is a suitable workaround for this
issue, although that doesn't actually fix anything.
This has been a problem in the past for me using iceweasel, but I've been able
to work around it by downgrading iceweasel. A downgrade of iceweasel stopped
working a few days ago, but the iceweasel version of this bug seems to have
been fixed in the past day or so (with version 31.0~b3-1), presumably due to
bug 751569 getting fixed.
Various messages about this issue on the web (mostly relating to skype) suggest
reinstalling 32bit and/or glib-related packages, so I have tried reinstalling
the following packages with no success:
* libstdc++6 libc
* 'lib32 ~i'
* 'glib ~i'
* libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 libgl1-mesa-
dri:i386
The bugzilla patch related to the fix for debian bug 751569 looks like it is a
little bit more cautious when deleting symbols:
