It could be replaced by the DH buildsystem provided by maven-debian-helper. This will simplify the maintenance since the package will no longer fail to build after each upgrade of a Maven plugin (such as #804594). This transition can be achieved by rewriting debian/rules to something like this: %: dh $@ --buildsystem=maven The pom patching mechanic and the installation of the jars are handled automatically.
