There should be some more tests on alternatives during upgrade tests:
* install the oldest version
* mark all alternatives as manual and remember them
* distupgrade
* check the remembered alternatives
- removed: OK
- manual: OK
- automatic: ERROR, user config lost, probably update-alternatives
--remove called in 'prerm/postrm upgrade'
* remove
The following is not an error, but a removal:
alternative foobar /bin/foobar
- alternative /bin/foo prio 10
- alternative /bin/bar prio 20
-> select /bin/bar and set manual
after upgrade the /bin/bar alternative provider was removed and /bin/foo
is now being used and the alternative is back to automatic - that is OK.

Hi,
I'm closing these two bugs because of the reasons explained in
http://blog.liw.fi/posts/wishlist-bugs/ - in short: they clutter the view and
nobody seems to be interested on working on these wishlist features.
But, I have also added references to these closed bugs in piuparts.git/TODO so
should someone in future wants to work on these features, there might be
pointers to previous discussions.
