Package: openjdk-7-jre
Version: 7u25-2.3.12-4
Severity: normal
Since the recent update to GNOME 3.8 in sid, OpenJDK no longer appears in
GNOME's "Open With" menu for JAR files. When I right-click a JAR file in
Nautilus, the only choice is "Open With Archive Manager" (which runs file-
roller). If I choose "Open With Other Application..." and click the "Show
other applications" button, OpenJDK does not appear in the list. Previously
(before the recent GNOME 3.8 update), Archive Manager was the default but
"OpenJDK 7 Java Runtime" was available from an "Open With" submenu. This was
useful for launching executable JAR files from within GNOME.
I've found that this regression can be fixed by making two changes to
/usr/share/applications/openjdk-7-java.desktop: add "%f" to the end of the
Exec line (so that the whole line reads "Exec=/usr/bin/java -jar %f", and
remove the "NoDisplay=true" line. This restores the previous behavior:
"OpenJDK 7 Java Runtime" appears in the "Open With" submenu for JAR files, as
well as under "Recommended Applications" in the "Other Application..." list.
