Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.12.8-2
Severity: important
Without Rhythmbox playing, I can do:
play /usr/share/sounds/pop.wav
without any problems. (I can hear the pop!)
As soon as I press play on the Music Applet and Rhythmbox starts
playing, I get this error when I do the same thing:
$ play /usr/share/sounds/pop.wav
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
play FAIL formats: can't open output file `default': snd_pcm_open error: Device
or resource busy
When I stop Rhythmbox by pressing PAUSE on the Music Applet, it takes a
few seconds, but then I can play the pop again without problems.
Similar thing, if I'm playing music with some application other than
Rhythmbox (e.g. Iceweasel with flash or so) and I press Play on the
Music Applet, nothing happens. It doesn't start to play and the song is
stuck at 0:00. As soon as the other app is stopped, it suddenly starts
playing. This particular example may be caused by the flash plugin, I
don't know.
But for the first mentioned effect, I have no web browser or
flash thingie running.
Strangely enough, I've used sound fine for years, doing daily
dist-upgrades with testing, on this same hardware. Nothing changed. I
don't see recent updates of Rhythmbox, so I am not sure it's caused by
Rhythmbox itself.
If there's anything I can do to provide more info, please let me know.
