In both cases, the system stops as soon as it attempts to boot from the CD (as in, I get left at the BIOS' "Boot from CD:" message, with a blinking cursor). I have tried re-burning the CDs, with verification turned on, three times but to no avail. Both Ubuntu Breezy i386 and DesktopBSD 1.0RC3 i386 installed fine a little while ago, so I don't think it is a hardware issue. My CD/DVD drive is a Liteon DVDRW SHW-1635S with firmware revision YS0Q.

IA64 is a totally different architecture. See: http://www.debian.org/ports/amd64/ Closing your report. Cheers, FJP
