Package: collectd
Version: 4.8.1-2
Severity: normal

Documentation in /usr/share/doc/collectd and the collectd.conf manual page
should include the warning published at
http://collectd.org/wiki/index.php/First_steps

"The Interval setting controls how often values are read. You should set this
once and then never touch it again. If you do, you will have to delete all your
RRD files or know some serious RRDtool magic! "

Even better: collectd should detect when Interval is changed in the
configuration file and refuse restarting, with a warning message.

Right now, as the package is installed, the collectd daemon is automatically
started with the default Interval value (10 secs); if one then changes the
Interval setting and restarts the daemon, the rrd files will be silently filled
with "NaN" values, and the user will only notice this when generating graphs
from the rrd files.

This fix had been included in upstream release 4.9.4 and 5.1.0-1 was the
next Debian release after that.
