Package: arpwatch
Version: 2.1a15-1.1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The arpwatch daemon doesn't start after the extraction of the debian
archive. Actually, it starts to listen in interface and stops
immediately as we can read in /var/log/daemon.log:

    Apr  5 17:24:47 server-bl arpwatch: Running as uid=121 gid=127
    Apr  5 17:24:47 server-bl arpwatch: listening on eth0
    Apr  5 17:24:47 server-bl arpwatch: exiting

The problem occurs on squeeze and wheezy branches. I can manually start
the daemon with invoke-rc.d command so the problem seems to be
exclusively related to the installation of the package.

I also tried this (see « -d & » at the end of ARGS value) and it allows
the daemon to start:

    # cat /etc/default/arpwatch

        # Global options for arpwatch(8).

        # Debian: don't report bogons, don't use PROMISC.
        ARGS="-N -p -d &"

        # Debian: run as `arpwatch' user. Empty this to run as root.
        RUNAS="arpwatch"

    # aptitude remove arpwatch
    # aptitude install arpwatch

My hope was to get some additional logs (what I didn't get) but I
observed it « solved » the issue.

Good luck ^^

Regards,
Philippe.

Hi,

as my mail to the submitter bounced, the report is 5 years old and I
cannot reproduce the problem I'm closing the bug. Please re-open if this
is still an issue.

Regards
Lukas
