Dear Maintainer,

With the current version, it is impossible to build nagios-nrpe on Debian
Stretch using openssl 1.1.x.
This applies to both the Debian source package nagios-nrpe and the upstream
source code.
The problem was also reported on
https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nrpe/issues/93.
Currently the workaround is to add "--with-need-dh=no" to the configure
options.
In order to support this new configure options, the source package needs to be
updated from upstream (3.1.1)
Please update nagios-nrpe source to 3.1.1 and add the configure workaround,
too.

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation? -> Trying to rebuild the Debian source
package fails during "make all" due to incompatibility with openssl 1.1.x.
   * What was the outcome of this action? -> Build failed, unable to compile
(see https://github.com/NagiosEnterprises/nrpe/issues/93)
   * What outcome did you expect instead? -> Able to build/compile the package.

If you need to rebuild the nagios-nrpe package on stretch you need to use the OpenSSL 1.0 packages, which the package already does.

This is already done, NRPE 3.1.1 without need-dh has been available in experimental since its release.

NRPE 3.1.1 was moved to unstable shortly after the stretch release. I may backport it to stretch when it transitions to testing, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

Kind Regards,

Bas
