Hi,
I noticed that grace depends now on gconf2 (stretch). By looking at
the source package, it seems that this dep has been introduced by the
addition of the thumbnailer in grace. However, forcing grace to depend
on gconf2 does not make that much sense, since many people use grace
in desktop environments which are not gnome based. And in many cases
grace is still used only on the command-line (e.g. via ssh connections
to clusters). Also, the provided thumbnailer feature, which triggers
the dependency, is an addition to other software (namely, file
managers) which might not be used at all by grace users.
My humble suggestion is to remove this dependency, since it triggers a
whole chain of other deps which are not necessary at all for grace to
work properly,
