Package: libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37-gtk2
Version: 2.21.91-2
libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37-gtk2 has only one reverse dependency in Debian:
epiphany-browser recommends it. epiphany-browser 3.29 no longer
supports NPAPI plugins. Since epiphany 3.30 will be released around
the same time as webkit 2.22, I propose we drop the -gtk2 package now
in the 2.21 (experimental) series.
Adobe Flash will no longer be supported after the end of 2020, which
is before Debian Buster will go out of support.
I guess we'll want to keep the -gtk2 package for Debian Stretch for
now since we have an older epiphany version there.
I took a quick look and see a ENABLE_PLUGIN_PROCESS_GTK2 option in
Source/WebCore/PlatformGTK.cmake but I haven't tested this.

I discussed this with upstream and they don't think it's a good idea,
NPAPI plugins are still used in some installations, and as a matter of
fact Epiphany does support them, they just made the setting hidden for
the end user.
So we don't really gain much from dropping this package now and we
could annoy some users.
Upstream will remove NPAPI plugin support in due time, that's actually
something they're looking forward to.
So I'll close this bug.
