Dear Maintainer,

Recently I installed Emacs, but then I decided to uninstall it, so I typed:
aptitude purge emacs

As it didn't work, I had to try to re-install it and then uninstall it with
the "remove" option, but this didn't work neither.

Emacs continued to be uninstalled but apt-get shows it as not installed and
does not report any error.

IIUC what the issue is, this will have gone away with the transition to an
unversioned "emacs" package.
Otherwise please reopen with a minimal complete example showing the problem.
