Package: geoip-bin
Version: 1.6.9-4
Severity: important
The geoiplookup[6] commands are obsolete. They try to use the Maxmind
.dat files which have been discontinued for almost a year now, and
cannot be downloaded anymore.
Ideally, the package would be updated so that the commands work as
before, but use the current GeoIP2 .mmdb databases.
Alternatively, the package description and man pages should make it
clear that this package is obsolete and will not work as expected anymore.
(I guess the same remarks also apply to the package geoip-database).
# dpkg -l | grep geoip
ii geoip-bin 1.6.9-4 amd64 IP lookup
command line tools that use the GeoIP library
ii geoip-database 20170512-1 all IP lookup
command line tools that use the GeoIP library (country database)
ii geoipupdate 2.3.1-1 amd64 MaxMind
GeoIP/GeoIP2 database updates
ii libgeoip1:amd64 1.6.9-4 amd64 non-DNS
IP-to-country resolver library
# cat /etc/debian_version

The database exists and works and sometimes they are still updated.
Also many libs and tools still rely on geoip v1 database layout and you
are free to update the source yourself.
