Package: dmidecode
Version: 3.0-2ubuntu0.1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Please include the following upstream patch in the dmidecode package:

e12ec26e19e02281d3e7258c3aabb88a5cf5ec1d

dmidecode: Only scan /dev/mem for entry point on x86
x86 is the only architecture which can have a DMI entry point scanned
from /dev/mem. Do not attempt it on other architectures, because not
only it can't work, but it can even cause the system to reboot.

This fixes support request #109697:
https://savannah.nongnu.org/support/?109697

Without this patch, executing dmidecode on non-x86 systems can cause
a system-level error (e.g. hardware hang, or system-wide exception).

Note: I'm reporting this bug from an x86 Ubuntu 16.04 system, but I
actually care about getting AArch64 Ubuntu 18.04 fixed. I hope that by
getting this issue fixed in Debian, then Ubuntu will be more likely to
import the fix. This probably entails applying the fix as a patch to
existing Debian dmidecode-3.0 packages rather than (or in addition to)
simply packaging a new version of dmidecode in Debian testing; I guess
that Ubuntu wouldn't want to take a new version of dmidecode into a
stable release, but hopefully will take a patch that Debian has applied.
