Postix Debian documentation is lacking, especially compared with Exim4. For
example, /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/README.SMTP-AUTH which is concise and
to-the-point documentation aimed at users of this specific Debian
implementation of Exim4 who need to set up SMTP-AUTH (either as server or
client).
There is basically no default documentation with postfix except the changelog,
and the extra documentation in postfix-doc seems to be mostly that from the
upstream source. It is a shame that is it lacking in Debian-specific help for
basic things like smarthost, smtp-auth, and TLS.
Since many users are home/dialup users who would want to use a smarthost
requiring SMTP AUTH, they should not have to dig through volumes of upstream
documentation, much of which may not be exactly relevant in the Debian-specific
implementation.
Please get rid of the irrelevant upstream documentation that is only going to
confuse users and include Debian-specific help.
