If Firefox is the default browser, then it opens a new Firefox profile as it was opening for the first time. It ignores the existing Firefox setup. If xdg-open is the default browser, then it does nothing. I added "ignore nodbus" to thunderbird.local, that does not seem to change the link clicking. Maybe the thunderbird.profile has multiple issues preventing link clicking.
