I've decided to go ahead and close this bug requesting private tiff
header files. There is an issue filed upstream to add a public
interface for tiff codecs, but there is no active effort going toward
that. There is no possibility that the debian package will ever
differ from upstream in this regard. There seems little reason
therefore to leave this open as a reminder in the debian bug tracking
system. Should the upstream tiff software be modified to provide a
public interface for accessing codecs, the debian package will
certainly also have it.
Thanks for your report.
