Package: plocate
Version: 1.1.12-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software
X-Debbugs-Cc: [email protected]

I'm encountering this:

[... apt-get dist-upgrade ...]
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extracting templates from packages: 100%
dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
unknown system group 'plocate' in statoverride file; the system group got
removed
before the override, which is most probably a packaging bug, to recover you
can remove the override manually with dpkg-statoverride
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Severity accordingly because this breaks dpkg and requires
manual recovery.

Steinar H. Gunderson dixit:

>Can you say something about what you are upgrading from and to?

Within sid, both times.

Looking at the apt history log (all times CEST):

Last dist-upgrade before getting plocate: 2021-08-10 22:35:00

Next dist-upgrade: 2021-10-07 23:14:00

Today’s dist-upgrade: 2021-10-11 19:27:22

>Is there any good reason why the plocate group would disappear

Not that… wait, doesn’t schroot copy groups? Let me see…

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! It does! And since my main system is now
bullseye, not sid, this is the first time it broke. In this
case, my sincere apology for the report.

Thanks for asking the right question,
