--- Begin Message ---Package: nautilus Version: 2.12.2-2 Severity: important Hello, When browsing my /usr/share/doc directory with nautilus, it blocks the execution of gedit or file-roller. I reproduce this bug in my system following these steps: 1. Open console 2. Open nautilus, and consecutively do: 2.1. Select my filesystem icon in left pane tree 2.2. Enter (double click) /usr in right pane directory list 2.3. Enter (double click) /usr/share in right pane directory list (wait for the new list to be filled) 2.4. Enter (double click) /usr/share/doc in right pane directoy list (wait for the new list to be filled) 3. In console, run "gedit": it gets blocked A note (for the case it may help?): I open system monitor, view the open files by blocked gedit, and it has an open connection against localhost.localdomain:858 4. Kill it with ctrl+c 5. Select /bin in nautilus' left pane tree 6. In console, run "gedit": it opens correctly 7. select /usr/share/doc again in nautilus' left pane tree (wait for the new list in right pane to be filled) 8. In console, run "gedit": it gets blocked again In fact, in 8. we repeat the problem of 3. with exactly the same properties. 9. Kill it with ctrl+c 9. Close nautilus 10. In console, run "gedit": it opens correctly Perhaps nautilus blocks some files / pipes / sockets when browsing large directories?? My /usr/share dir. contains 249 elements, and my /usr/share/doc directory contains 1004 elements (which in turn may contain about 6 - 7 elements - average). I have found this behaviour when trying to open some package documents or gzipped files, and it is quite annoying as you can understand. I'm using linux-image-2.6.15-1-686, on my debian testing system, and an ext3 filesystem. I can reproduce this behaviour both in my Pentium 4 (1.8 Mhz - 768 MB ram) desktop computer and in my Pentium M (1.4 Mhz - 512 MB ram) laptop. Both systems have similar configuration. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-1-686 Locale: LANG=es_ES@euro, LC_CTYPE=es_ES@euro (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages nautilus depends on: ii desktop-file-utils 0.10-1 Utilities for .desktop files ii gconf2 2.12.1-9 GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-control-center 1:2.12.2-2 utilities to configure the GNOME d ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.10.3-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudiofile0 0.2.6-6 Open-source version of SGI's audio ii libbonobo2-0 2.10.1-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.10.1-2 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.5-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcairo2 1.0.2-3 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libeel2-2 2.12.2-3 Eazel Extensions Library (for GNOM ii libesd-alsa0 [libesd0] 0.2.36-3 Enlightened Sound Daemon (ALSA) - ii libexif12 0.6.12-2 library to parse EXIF files ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-1.1 generic font configuration library ii libgail-common 1.8.8-1 GNOME Accessibility Implementation ii libgail17 1.8.8-1 GNOME Accessibility Implementation ii libgconf2-4 2.12.1-9 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.5.1-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.8.6-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.12.2-2 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome-keyring0 0.4.6-2 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome2-0 2.12.0.1-5 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.12.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-0 2.10.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.12.2-5 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.10-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libnautilus-extension1 2.12.2-2 libraries for nautilus components ii liborbit2 1:2.12.4-1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.10.3-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpopt0 1.7-5 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii librsvg2-2 2.12.7-5 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libsm6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System Session Management ii libstartup-notificatio 0.8-1 library for program launch feedbac ii libx11-6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System protocol client li ii libxcursor1 1.1.3-1 X cursor management library ii libxext6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxi6 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System Input extension li ii libxinerama1 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System multi-head display ii libxml2 2.6.23.dfsg.1-0.1 GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4 X Window System Resize, Rotate and ii libxrender1 1:0.9.0.2-1 X Rendering Extension client libra ii nautilus-data 2.12.2-2 data files for nautilus ii shared-mime-info 0.16-3 FreeDesktop.org shared MIME databa ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-9 compression library - runtime Versions of packages nautilus recommends: ii desktop-base 0.3.16 common files for the Debian Deskto ii eject 2.1.4-1 ejects CDs and operates CD-Changer ii nautilus-cd-burner 2.12.2-3 CD Burning front-end for Nautilus -- no debconf information
