Package: python3-spyder
Version: 4.2.1+dfsg1-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

python3-spyder-kernels was recently updated to 2.3.0-1. Since
python3-spyder depends on a version << 1.11.0, it means it cannot be
installed anymore, or people who already have it cannot update
python3-spyder-kernels.

In the future, would it be possible to synchronize those 2 packages
better, so python3-spyder-kernels cannot migrate to testing until a
compatible version of python3-spyder is available?

Thank you for maintaining this package.

Dear Marc,

Thank you for your comments, which I do understand and appreciate.

It is not always possible to keep testing in a perfect condition. In
this case, spyder has not been in testing for over a month, so there
were no conflicts introduced by transitioning python3-spyder-kernels
to testing. Also, while I uploaded spyder (and python3-spyder) to
unstable fairly shortly after uploading python3-spyder-kernels, in
order to keep everything in sync, the latter migrated to testing
fairly quickly but the former encountered problems so has not yet
migrated.

Finally, in the interim, you can download the older version of
python3-spyder-kernels from the stable distribution, for example by
visiting packages.debian.org or snapshot.debian.org, or you can
download Spyder 5.3.0 from the unstable distribution.

Best wishes,

   Julian
